In the early days of coin grading a few different firms tried their hand at "slabbing" rare coins. It is well known that they were much more strict on their grading in the early days and many of the old type holders were cracked/opened and resubmitted to upgrade the coin with todays more loose grading standards. This stunning 1915 S MS65 $20 Saint Guadens has managed to survive in one of these early takes on coin grading that even put a stated value of $3000 on the coin back in 1985 with a unique take at grading both sides of the coin that has since been done away by current grading companys. A unique part of numismatics history with a coin that seems very conservatively graded in our opinion.
