An extremely impressive statement piece for any vintage collector, this authentic Rothschild ingot from 1935 is truly an incredible piece of silver history. The RMR Royal Mint Refinery was established in 1852 and operated by the infamous N M Rothschild & Sons for just over 100 years before ceasing operations in 1968.
Rarely do you come across dated ingots from this time period, let alone an authentic Rothschild. 1935 was an interesting time in history, just after WW1 and before WW2. 1935 is also a unique date in precious metals history due to being just 2 years after President Roosevelt passed executive order 6102 of 1933 forbidding hoarding gold coin & bullion. 1933 is also when The Commodity Exchange was founded by the merger of The National Metal Exchange, Rubber Exchange, National Silk Exchange, and the New York Hide Exchange. The merger between New York Mercantile Exchange "NYMEX" & Commodity Exchange created the worlds largest physical futures trading exchange which is what we know as COMEX today.
It is unknown whether this ingot was created for the 1935 Commodity Exchange Market, however it is quite interesting that the refinery made a weight correction error strike over only 0.15oz (see top left corner of ingot). This shows how serious accuracy of bullion weight was taken by the RMR even on an ingot of this size/caliber. Another interesting aspect of this ingot is the N M Rothschild & Sons Hallmark not only on the front but also on the "assayers cut" corner (see picture number 9/10). It is possible the RMR cut the corner of the ingot to test purity then over-stamped the cut with their Rothschild hallmark to confirm accuracy/weight at the Royal Mint Refinery.
Certainly one of the most captivating and historical silver ingots MineralX has had the privilege to bring to market.
